Cinco de Mayo

Cinco de Mayo, or the 5th of May, marks the day the Battle of Puebla was won in Mexico back in 1862, when Mexico was fighting France’s attempt to conquer as a means of recovering a debt. Today in the USA, people celebrate the Mexican culture and revel in the music, foods and festivities associated with our neighbors to the south. In my youth, I paid homage to tequila with salt and lime, but as the years stack up the high octane has been replaced with high nutrition…like avocados, for example. Avocados are considered to be a “super food” due to the healthful benefits when added to your meal planning. I love almost every way I’ve encountered the creamy, green lusciousness, but my favorite treat of all time is Guacamole.

Friday, May 3rd during the 9am news hour Mary Merola will be on FOX4KC to demonstrate a few recipes and some valuable tools to ensure your fiesta is a success and you still have energy left to party! Mary’s Guacamole recipe is the best I’ve tasted, and she uses this Avocado Slicer to pit and scoop out the avocado with ease. When it is done but you want the flavors to meld, use this Fresh Guacamole Keeper to seal it prior to serving. It is air-tight so keeps your guac bright green instead of letting it turn brown. I would suggest it will also work for left-overs but I’ve never had any…

Another fun tool Mary will be demonstrating on Friday’s broadcast is the Shred Machine™. This shredder makes quick work of your favorite cooked meat using two large grip handles…effective and fun to use!

Be sure to tune in on Friday at 9am to FOX4KC to get great recipes and ideas designed to give you kitchen confidence as you make your Cinco de Mayo delicious. Ole!
